Only Once You Quit Making Excuses Will You Quit Smoking!

If you’ve been a smoker for any length of time, you’ve given thought to quitting. Why haven’t you? Because you keep making excuses like “Now’s not a good time for me” or “I need to lose some weight first.” You know exactly what I mean because if you haven’t said these words, you know someone who has.

In order to quit the first thing you need to do is to write down exactly what the goal is you are after and come up with all the reasons why you want it. Once you’ve done this also make a note of all the excuses why you can’t achieve your goal.

The act of putting your thoughts to paper gives you clarity. It allows you to sit back and subjectively analyze not only why you want to quit, but to scrutinize all the excuses that are keeping you from doing so. Doing so in this fashion will show you how silly your excuses are in comparison to the goal you are looking to attain.

I’ve listed some of the more common excuses here, but ultimately it is your responsibility to list EVERY reason you think keeps you smoking.

“If I quit smoking, I’ll gain weight.”

Yes, it is possible that you may gain a little weight when stopping smoking. However it is usually less than 20 pounds (which, by the way is WAYYYY better for you than continuing to smoke would be). But if you take proactive steps to assure that when quitting, the only snacks available to you are healthy rather than high calorie comfort foods, this should not become an issue.

“Smoking is too enjoyable to quit.”

If that were truly so, then chances are you wouldn’t be sitting there now gathering information on quitting, would you? Don’t worry. I’m not picking on you. I used to say the very same thing. Making statements such as this creates one major issue. And that is the fact that the more times you say it, the more you become to believe it. I’ve said it before. So time to come clean and be honest with yourself, is smoking really that enjoyable or is it just a fallacy you’ve convinced yourself to be true? What is it that you think smoking gives you? More money, better health and cleaner, fresher breath? Looking at it from that angle and writing down the answers will show you that you really don’t enjoy smoking that much at all.

The thing is that I am not trying to come across as mean or condescending, so please don’t take what I am saying the wrong way. No, what I am trying to do is be truly helpful by telling you that none of the excuses that you are currently using or have used in the past do anything for you other than keep you smoking and once you come to terms with this fact, the easier quitting will be.

You have what it takes to beat those lies, once and for all.

The non-REM sleep stage is when you go into a deep slumber; this allows your immune system and other vital processes to restore themselves.

Studies were conducted on the interference of electronics on sleep and it found that televisions, computers, smart phones, video games and more tended to interfere with the brain’s need to slow down and rest during bedtime.

It’s important to identify how much stress you’re under since this is a culprit in the lack of sleep a person gets. Stress can eventually lead you to depression, which will also interfere with your ability to get a good sleep. Determine what makes your mind run wild and find ways to slow it down.

There are other things that a person can do besides reorganizing their bedroom. They can repeat the same things every evening before heading to bed. This means giving themselves a 30-minute window to wind down. This allows the brain to understand the person is getting ready for bed and is calling it a day.

So what can you do to make your brain slow down and relax? Consider picking up a book and drink a decaffeinated cup of tea; maybe peppermint tea. Instead of using lamps and the room’s overhead light, use candlelight. Be aware that you’ll need to blow these out before you go to sleep. A very relaxing scent to use is lavender.

Change can be hard but if a person wants to improve how they feel in the morning after they sleep, it’s important to change the habits that’s hindering them from getting that good night’s sleep in the first place.

Infections in the Mother
